Riding with the SRCG is designed to be easy, convenient, laid back and most importantly, safe.
Therefore we require that the below is adhered to before joining every ride with us.
1. Insurance/British Cycling Membership
We ask that every member joins British Cycling at the minimum level of ‘Member’
This ensures that every rider has third party liability insurance. This is needed to not only safeguard the club but the individuals riding also.
2. Roadworthiness of Bike
It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that their bike is in a safe condition to ride. We ask that all bikes being used on club rides are regularly inspected and routinely maintained to provide a safe riding environment for the rider, other SRCG members and the general public at large.
Bikes used on club rides must not be fitted with tri-bars, aero bars or other extensions.
3. Personal Equipment
For every ride, we ask that each rider wears appropriate kit for the ride, we recommend a good set of bib shorts and a Riding Jersey (SRCG is preferable). Helmets should be worn on all club rides.
For inclement or cold weather, appropriate kit is worn.
For darker mornings or evenings or for rides that may end in low light we ask that all riders have mounted front and rear lights. It is advisable to carry lights on all rides as we do ride through areas that are darker than normal (such as forestry blocks, woodlands etc).
4. Official Rides
Official SRCG rides will generally run all year round on Saturday mornings subject to conditions being suitable, and availability of ride leaders. The ride will have a route posted on strava for members to download and follow.
In the summer an additional evening ride may be added, again, announced on strava.
All other rides that are organised between members will be unofficial rides no matter the number of SRCG riders taking part.
5. Medical & Emergency Contact Information
Please ensure that you have informed the Club Secretary of any medical conditions we should be aware of for example, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Bee/Wasp allergies etc. Also ensure that the emergency contact section of your British Cycling profile is complete, ride leaders will have access to this data in case of emergency.
6. By participating in Club activities, riders are:
Acknowledging the dangers of participating in cycling and fully assume the risks associated with it including, without limitation, the risk of collision with other riders, vehicles and fixed and moving objects, risks arising from surface hazards, equipment failure and weather conditions potentially leading to serious physical injury and/or loss of life
Consenting to take part in the activity, which may include being in a traffic free environment and/or on the public highway, and understand and agree that they are participating at their risk, taking full and entire responsibility for their own safety
Agreeing to be aware of their own limitations, to be responsible for the condition, adequacy and safety of their equipment, and to ride in a manner that does not endanger their fellow riders, themselves or the public at large.
Agreeing to hold the Club and its officers and other members harmless from all claims (including those resulting from negligence or omission), including claims for physical injury or loss suffered in connection with Club activities
Agreeing to notify the ride leader of any medical condition or information they feel that the leader should know about before participating in the ride
