Frequently asked questions

What sort of riding do you do?

Typically local road rides around the Kent and Sussex countryside, occasional mountain bike and gravel rides, and trips away both within the UK and abroad.

When does the SRCG ride?

Official SRCG rides will generally run all year, on Saturday mornings and

will have a route posted on Strava for members to download and follow.

In the summer, an additional evening ride may be added, again, announced on Strava.

All rides not posted on the club’s Strava page, that are organised between members will be unofficial rides no matter the number of SRCG riders taking part.

What happens if the weather turns?

If an official ride is deemed unsafe prior to the start it will be cancelled on

Strava with an announcement sent out on the WhatsApp group. This is

usually due to the weather.

How much time do I need to commit?

That is up to you!  We are a very easy going club, join us for one ride or join us for every ride, we don't take a register.

Does the club have insurance?

The club is insured through it’s British Cycling Affiliation.

We require that every member joins British Cycling at the minimum level of ‘Member’. This ensures that every rider has third party liability insurance, which is needed to not only safeguard the club but also the individuals riding.

Do I need a top of the range bike?

We welcome bikes of all shapes and sizes! However, we do ask that all bikes are regularly inspected and key components such as brakes, tyres, bearings, groupsets, etc are routinely maintained and replaced where necessary. This is to provide a safe riding environment for the rider, other SRCG members and the general public.

Do I need any particular equipment?

For darker mornings/evenings or for rides that may end in low-light we ask

that all riders have mounted front and rear lights. In wet weather, we

request that riders use mud guards for the comfort and safety of the group.

Please ensure you bring the following items to repair your bike if needed:

innertube(s), patches, pump or CO2, tyre levers, cycling multi-tool. Please ensure you have enough water and fuel for the ride.

Is there a dress code?

For every ride, we ask that each rider wears appropriate kit. We

recommend a good set of bib shorts and a cycling Jersey (SRCG branded is

preferable). For inclement or cold weather, appropriate kit should be worn.

Club Kit?

From time to time when there is sufficient interest we will open the online club kit portal with Shutt, this will be notified via the Members WhatsApp group.

I'm a beginner - do I need to be at a certain standard before joining?

Everyone is welcome at the SRCG, we have cyclists of all abilities. We are all here to ride; some will go longer, some faster, but everyone should look out for each other. Safety should always be the number one priority.
